Cloudy skies and threatening rain couldn’t put a damper on the Vic Miller team yesterday at Oswego Speedway. The last race there had teammates finishing one-two, with Chris Perley taking the win. This time it was reversed as Lou Cicconi took the victory with Perley finishing a close second.
Lou was excited at the start of the day. “With this team and this car, all I need is some luck to do well,” said Liquid Lou. After fast practice laps, Lou found his luck and promptly went out and got the fast time in time trials. While not able to beat his own track record set last time out, Lou was nevertheless pleased by his accomplishment. The heats were next, and Lou went out starting fourth in his heat. His luck continued and he hit the line first to take the checkers in his heat.
Starting ninth in the large and talented ISMA field, Lou had 50 laps to show his stuff. Finding the outside line to his liking, he quickly climbed towards the front. Up to fifth by lap seven and fourth by lap sixteen, Liquid Lou and the leaders reached lapped traffic. By lap 34, Lou was up to second trailing Mike Lichty. Using the outside line in turns three and four, Lou passed Lichty for the lead! Several cautions followed, with Liquid Lou still showing the way and Chris Perley now in second. With Chris pressing through the final exciting laps, Lou ran some of his fastest laps of the day and took the victory!
Liquid Lou went to victory lane and thanked his crew for their hard work. “The car was awesome! I can’t believe how good it was on the outside”, Lou said. “I really want to thank the Miller crew, and Scottie, and everybody. They really worked their ass off on this car. And I appreciate them letting me run the car.”
Vic Miller’s team dominated the race. As did his chassis, which finished first, second and fourth in this feature.
Next up for Lou and the Miller team is Autodrome Speedway in Quebec, Canada, June 21&22!
